PAKATAN Harapan and Barisan Nasional will not only keep the three states they governed but win two Perikatan Nasional states in the elections, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.

The PH chairman said the prediction was based on recent voter sentiment and political developments. But he did not name which two states PN would lose.

“Based on current developments and survey findings, I foresee (PH) remaining strong in the three states (it governed).

“We are now focusing on two other states,” he said in Putrajaya today.

Six states must hold elections by September. PH helmed Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan and PN, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah.

Anwar said PH and BN have completed distributing the seats among themselves.

“I have met Zahid,” he said, referring to BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“Aeat negotiations (between PH and BN) have been finalised.

“For now, there is no overlapping of seats between PH and BN. However, we are providing avenues for PH and BN leaders in the six states to channel their views and input,” he said.

The EC announced yesterday that it will hold a special meeting tomorrow to discuss important election dates for the six states due to hold elections soon.

EC secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak said the meeting followed receipt of notices of the dissolution of the Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan assemblies.

EC chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh will chair the meeting to fix the dates of the election writ, nomination day and polling day, he said in a statement today.

A press conference will be held after the event. – July 4, 2023.
