PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he participated in the Umno annual general assembly today because it served as a platform to strengthen the unity government.

“I came back because I am using this unity platform to strengthen the government, which will benefit the people,” the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said, referring to his return to the halls of his former party, Umno.

Anwar, dressed in s baju Melayu in blue, the colour of PKR, was seen waving the Sangsaka Bangsa flag and singing along to the Umno anthem “Bersatu Bersetia Berkhidmat” at the start of the event.

The PKR president, who is a former Umno deputy president, said he was “comfortable” attending the assembly.

“The important thing is to fulfil one’s duty to the country. Personal experience is important but it does not override the interests of the people and the country.

“I’m certainly comfortable, happy and familiar with this environment. (I even remember) the (Umno) song,” he said. – June 9, 2023.
