UMNO must help the unity government to win the three states governed by the opposition in the state elections, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

The Umno president said the party has a huge role to play in winning Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, which he called the “Malay Belt” states.

“It is our shared responsibility to bring the Malays and the people in these states to be part of the Madani government which truly reflects the face of Malaysia,” Zahid said in his policy speech today at the Umno annual general assembly at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

He said the three states must not be isolated from the political reality of the country.

“If we really want to see Islam and the Malays excel, togetherness in the government in Putrajaya will strengthen the moderate and progressive Malay-Islamic agenda,” Zahid, who is also the Barisan Nasional chairman.”

Zahid pointed to PAS’ failure to provide clean water to its voters in the states it governed.

He said the water supply in Kelantan remains murky after more than 30 years of PAS rule.

“Many basic development agendas, especially in Kedah and Kelantan, require major changes. Islam is clean. Clean outside and inside.

“To be clean, Islam needs clean water. Regarding the need for clean water for example in Kelantan, it seems  like a solution has not been found,” he said.

Zahid said this was so despite a PAS lawmaker heading the environment and water ministry in the previous government.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man was the environment and water minister in the Perikatan Nasional government.

Zahid called on Kelantan voters to give the unity government a chance to change their lives.

“The time has come for the children of Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu who are abroad and inclined to continue voting for PAS to think about their parents who live in those states.

“Don’t let your parents endure such difficult lives.” – June 9, 2023.
