THE funeral of Kee Kok Thiam, an associate of fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, was a “small, private affair” with few family members in attendance.

The wake was held at a funeral parlour in Jinjang, Kuala Lumpur and the final rites were performed cremation later at the Kepong Crematorium, which was attended by less than 30 people.

His family sought privacy for the event, refusing media coverage. They also asked the press to immediately delete footage and photos of the funeral.

Earlier today, the family’s lawyer said Kee died suddenly after suffering a stroke.

Kee, who returned to Malaysia three weeks ago, died in the hospital on May 29.

He was nabbed in the early hours of May 3 by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers after the 56-year-old arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

MACC sources had said that Kee was allegedly Jho Low’s right-hand man and had been on the run since 2018.

The anti-graft agency had recorded his statement and raided his house.

Kee had been released after his interview with MACC officers, after which the MACC had said that no charges were laid against him “at this time”.

A MACC source said investigations into the businessman were ongoing. – May 31, 2023.
