A SUSPECT alleged to be an associate of wanted businessman Low Taek Jho who was arrested by anti-graft official corruption agency is understood to be former 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) official, Kee Kok Thiam.

Kee, 51, was nabbed at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) early on Wednesday.

“He flew in from Macau, using his own identification documents,” a source told The Malaysian Insight.

It was learnt that Interpol was able to track his movements before the information was passed on to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission who nabbed him at KLIA2.

The source alleged that Kee is Jho Low’s right-hand man.

MACC in a statement yesterday said the suspect had been on the run since 2018.

The anti-graft agency recorded his statement and raided his house.

The agency’s investigation revealed that the suspect was believed to have received money from 1MDB and SRC through the account of a company called Wright Shaw Limited.

The MACC in collaboration with the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) of Singapore was previously reported to have seized the account of Wright Shaw Limited involving funds of US$5.2 million.

The investigation also proved that the suspect received money from 1MDB through Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia (YR1M).

MACC Chief Commissioner Azam Baki confirmed the arrest of the suspect, and said that efforts to track down several more men and other assets in Singapore are underway.

The anti-corruption agency has so far managed to recover approximately 70% of 1MDB’s assets worth RM28.3 billion. – May 6, 2023.
