PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim today took Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor to task for claiming that Penang belongs to Kedah. 

Anwar said that as a leader of a state, Sanusi should understand the Federal Constitution.

“When a leader speaks, he has to understand the constitution, he has to understand what is an agreement,” Anwar said in Kuala Lumpur today.

“The agreement could have been signed 300 or 1,000 years ago, (but) the final agreement was to establish the Federation of Malaya and that is clear.

“As the menteri besar, it is only appropriate that he is bound by the legislation.”

Anwar said all leaders must respect the constitutional agreement that had been consented to by the Malay rulers, including the sultan of Kedah. – Bernama, May 30, 2023.
