POLICE have arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly killing his pregnant girlfriend and burning her corpse twice at an oil palm plantation on Jalan Sungai Limau in Sungai Besar, Selangor.

It is believed that the suspect, who is a former college student, had lost his temper after the restaurant waitress refused to keep her pregnancy a secret.

Sabak Bernam district police chief Agus Salim Mohd Alias said the suspect had taken the 21-year-old woman into a car and argued with her before hitting her on the head and killing her at around 10pm on Monday.

He said police received a report from the public on the discovery of a burnt woman’s body at the oil palm plantation at around 8am yesterday.

“According to the preliminary investigation, the victim’s body is believed to have been burned twice with the aim of disposing of evidence – at around 10pm on Monday and around 7am yesterday – before it was found by the public,” he told a press conference in Sungai Besar today.

He said the suspect allegedly beat and stabbed his lover with a kitchen knife and slashed the victim’s abdomen before burning the body on the night of the incident. The man returned to the scene the following day with a container filled with petrol to finish off what he started.

Agus Salim said the man also disposed of items belonging to the victim in Jalan Lama, Kuala Selangor.

He said checks revealed that the suspect had no criminal record. The suspect and the woman were believed to have known each other since last year.

He said the suspect has been remanded for six days beginning today to assist with investigations. – Bernama, May 24, 2023.
