LIM Guan Eng today slammed Barisan Nasional for allegedly playing hate politics, after the Negri Sembilan menteri besar told Umno Youth members to flip over tables at pro-opposition coffee shops.
The Penang chief minister said Mohamad Hasan was inciting hate with his “threats of violence”.
“He was recorded on video telling Umno Youth members to flip over tables and he would bail them out if they got into trouble with police.
Mohamad was recorded making the remarks at an Umno event.
In expressing support for Umno Youth chief and Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin, Mohamad told Umno Youth members to ensure Khairy wins the seat comfortably in the 14th general election.
He said Umno Youth members play an important role and must do more than put up party flags.
“If you get caught by police, I will post your bail. Don’t give the opposition face,” Mohamad was recorded as saying, to cheers from the audience.
“Who is indulging in hate politics?” said the DAP secretary-general of Mohamad’s remarks, and citing how Penang BN had put up posters attacking the state government yesterday.
Lim brought up Mohamad’s remarks when commenting on the criticism hurled at him over a video showing the Penang chief minister singing along to a children’s song that had anti-goods and services tax lyrics in Jelutong last Saturday.
Prime Minister Najib Razak, without mentioning names, has slammed an “opposition leader of a northern state” for being “willing to stoop to the level of indoctrinating children with hatred for the government”.
Police are investigating Lim under Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Act, which criminalises the use of the internet for communications that are “obscene, indecent, false, menacing or offensive in character, with the intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass another person”.
Lim said he was merely criticising a government policy, and was not trying to incite hatred against the federal government, political parties or leaders. – March 21, 2018.
