POLICE are investigating Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng over a video of him singing and dancing to an anti-GST song at an event attended by children.

Northeast police district chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar said police had received three reports over the video.

“The reports were lodged by three people representing a non-governmental organisation and Penang Front Party who were unhappy the chief minister had exploited children in the anti-GST video clip when he was launching the ‘Tuisyen Rakyat’ programme at Mutiara Idaman in Jelutong.

“The investigation officer is now talking to the complainants about their statements,” he told the media in a WhatsApp chat group.

Anuar said the investigation is under Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Act, which criminalises use of the internet for communications that are “obscene, indecent, false, menacing or offensive in character with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass another person”.

The video of Lim singing and dancing to the anti-GST song went viral on Saturday following the launch of the tuition programme.

The song with Malay and English lyrics sung to the tune of the children’s Alphabet Song begins with “ABCDGST” and goes on to say that prices are up while salaries are not, so much so that the people can only afford to eat Maggi Mee.

The lyrics also mention the people are taxed because of 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

Pakatan Harapan has pledged to scrap the GST within 100 days in office if it is given the mandate at the next general election. – March 19, 2018.

  • It should be noted that from a purely fitness viewpoint, song & dance will always do our body a world of good, & it can be done practically anywhere the opportunity arises given that life can be shortlived..
