PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim today chided members of the opposition threatening to topple the unity government, warning that action will be taken against those who persist.

“Don’t sabotage (the government). We have given (you) room and if (you) try to interfere, we will act accordingly without compromise,” he said at an Aidilfitri open house in Penang.

Following reports about toppling the unity government, Anwar said he was fed up with the constant rumours and plots.

He urged such parties to table a motion of no confidence against him in the next Dewan Rakyat sitting in two weeks.

Earlier, Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir said the country should focus on rebuilding the economy and reject any threat to destabilise the unity government.

“BN is urging everyone to focus on nation-building and to reject any form of political threat.

“Malaysia needs to return to the international platform in order to convince investors. Stability must be guarded by everyone,” he said.

Zambry’s statement today followed rumours that Perikatan Nasional (PN) had the numbers to form a new administration.

Yesterday, Anwar said PN could submit statutory declarations to prove it had a parliamentary majority during the next session.

He added that the opposition was welcome to submit a motion and he would not take issue with it if it was true.

Recently, a cryptic social media post by Bersatu leader Faiz Na’aman fuelled speculation that PN was poised to try and form a new government.
