Police arrest man for letting off firecrackers on MRR2

POLICE have arrested a man who was seen in a video uploaded to social media setting off fireworks on the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) opposite Petronas Lotus Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, recently.

Ampang Jaya police chief Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the man, 35, was detained at 10pm on Jalan Dagang, yesterday.

He said the suspect, a lorry driver, had been asked by customers of his friend’s business to set off the firecrackers.

“The suspect, who has no previous convictions and who tested negative for intoxicating substances, was taken to Ampang court complex today and has been remanded until Wednesday under section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

“The case is being investigated for using any explosives that may endanger life or damage property or injure people,” he said in a statement today.

Farouk added that the suspect is also being investigated for playing with and letting off fireworks. – Bernama, April 16, 2023.
