POLICE have completed their investigation on Instagram influencer “fatinamyralee”, who had allegedly made a racial slur on her social media account while at the AR Rahman concert in Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil in January.
Cheras district police chief Zam Halim Jamaluddin told The Malaysian Insight that the investigation papers have sent to the deputy public prosecutor’s office.
“The investigation papers were minuted by the Kuala Lumpur headquarters D5 officers with the recommendation to charge the suspect under section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 and section 504 of the penal code,” he said.
“They were sent to the deputy public prosecutor’s office on March 31.”
Police launched an investigation after “fatinamyralee” posted a video story on her Instagram account.
She had used a derogatory word that refers to Indians in her video, which has close to 120,000 followers.
“I want Hindustani songs, please. Just waiting for Tokti (Siti Nurhaliza’s performance) now,” she said in the post, which caught the attention of Malaysians and was made viral.
As netizens bashed her, the influencer made her account private.
The charges recommended under the Communications and Multimedia Act is for the improper use of network facilities or services while section 504 of the penal code is for insulting with the intention of causing a breach of the peace.
The influencer made the comments at award-winning Indian music composer AR Rahman’s sold-out concert in Kuala Lumpur on January 28.
The event was also attended by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, along with his wife Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as well as Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil. – April 1, 2023.
