THEY may have been charged in court for corruption, but it is not right to compare Muhyiddin Yassin with Najib Razak, said Bersatu youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayshal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

He reiterated that the charges levelled against the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman for corruption and money laundering were nothing more than “selective prosecution”.

“I would like to remind you that Muhyiddin is not Najib Razak, and far from being involved in the world’s biggest financial scandal like 1MDB. Malays are better at judging which eyes are gems and which are glass.”

Wan Ahmad Fayshal said Muhyiddin was targeted as Bersatu and PN were now the primary choices for Malays.

He said the results of the recent general election showed that Malay voters chose Bersatu over Umno.

“This kind of selective prosecution, motivated by extreme fear of Bersatu’s influence in Malay politics is very disappointing.

“It is far from fair, and very inhumane. For the Malays, Umno has lost its moral compass and political legitimacy,” he said in a keynote address at the youth wing Armada’s AGM today.

Wan Ahmad Fayshal considered Umno’s alliance with Pakatan Harapan (PH) to be unholy because there was no major Malay political agenda.

“Through this unholy alliance, Umno thinks they represent the Malays in PH.

“While Malay support for Umno is declining and it is proven by the number of seats won by the party since GE13,” said the Machang member of parliament.

Muhyiddin is now facing four charges of abuse of power and two charges of money laundering amounting to RM232.5 million. – March 11, 2023.
