Pakatan Harapan’s inability to name a PM candidate a joke, says Utusan

WHO is going to be the next Prime Minister if Pakatan Harapan wins the next general election continues to remains a mystery and has become a public joke, Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia said in commentary today.

Writing under the collective the pseudonym Awang Selamat, the paper’s editors said the willingness of Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad to consider holding the position had caused further issues in Pakatan Harapan.

Awang said before this, PKR’s de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir and Amanah president Mohamed Sabu had been nominated for the top post.

“I’m just smiling at this new development. Pakatan Harapan has not even begun to govern, yet they are showing many failures.

“Recently, Dr Mahathir was embarrassingly caught at a PKR Convention when all the Pakatan Harapan leaders held up placards supporting Anwar as the next prime minister.

“The Bersatu adviser defiance is seen as a huge blow for Pakatan Harapan. For Mahathir, Anwar is still not qualified to become prime minister because of moral issues which he has stated many times.”

Awang said whatever the issue between Dr Mahathir and Anwar, the power to decide who will become the next prime minister lay with DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang.

“DAP is still the strongest party in the coalition, as they hold the most seat in parliament. They will continue to retain their seats in the next general election. This will allow Kit Siang to choose anyone as prime minister, including Mat Sabu, his most trusted confidant. How about it?”

Meanwhile, Awang said that wrath of Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah against Subang MP R. Sivarasa should open the eyes of everyone.

“In the span of four days, the Sultan has rebuked Sivarasa twice for speaking at the An Nur Mosque in Subang.

“Awang respects the sultan’s firmness in upholding the purity of Islam and not allowing the mosque to be used as a political platform.”

The paper was referring to an event on May 24, when Sivarasa spoke at a Mosque in Kota Damansara, which is in his Subang parliamentary constituency, after presenting aid.

It was reported that the Selangor Religious Department (Jais)  was investigating the incident following a decree by Sultan Sharafuddin, who was displeased that the Subang MP allegedly disobeyed his instruction that mosques and surau should not be used for politics.

Awang said the sultan had issued many warnings to politicians to not speak in mosques.

“Sivarasa should understand and protect religious sensitivities instead of doing the opposite. This could be seen as a provocation on Islam and challenging the royal reprimand.

“It looks like Sivarasa is not heeding the sultan’s warning. He is still giving excuses despite there is clear evidence of him speaking at the mosque.

“This shows the rudeness of Sivarasa, who should have apologised to sultan since receiving the first warning last Tuesday.”

He said that it is crucial that Jais conduct an investigation.

“We hope that menteri besar Mohamed Azmin Ali will take action against Sivarasa and not defend him.

“His failure to do so, will only show that the PKR led state which is controlled by DAP has undermine the sultan’s warning and is seen as supporting Sivarasa.”

Awang added that if PKR and DAP did not use mosques for political purposes, there would be no issues.

“Sivarasa, the Muslim people also have their limits, don’t invite trouble.” – June 4, 2017.

  • If true, wasn't it more embarrassing for Shafee to have been discovered by Sarawak Report to have been paid RM9.5 million by Najib just to put Anwar behind bars? Perhaps because Anwar is behind bars that Pakatan has difficulty naming him as the alternative Prime Ministerial candidate. Was this a joke too, Utusan?
