THE Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is conducting a comprehensive study on the recommendation of Dewan Negara president Rais Yatim to build a special “Dunia Melayu (Malay World)” heritage area in the capital.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Mahadi Che Ngah said his office has looked at several sites in the city for the project.

“This new idea needs to be looked at comprehensively because it poses other implications if not studied in detail. The proposal should have a lasting effect and create the desired impact,” he said in Kuala Lumpur today.

He was met by reporters during a tour with Rais around Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

Rais had earlier suggested that DBKL create a special heritage area that can showcase Malay culture to visitors in the capital.

Rais said the project could include a cultural array that would attract foreign and domestic visitors, including Malay heritage art, high-culture lifestyle, handicrafts, music, theatre and food. – Bernama, February 19, 2023.
