POLICE are still investigating the death of a Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) student who died last year under mysterious circumstances in her room on campus, Higher Education Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said.

In a written reply in parliament today, Khaled said the police have not provided new details on the 20-year-old’s death.
“The ministry would like to state that her death is still under police investigation.
“So far, the ministry has not been informed about the result of the investigation and thus will not comment further,” Khaled, who expressed his sympathy to Vinosiny’s family.
Khaled wasa responding to V. Ganabatirau (Klang-PH) who had asked about the status of the investigation.
S. Vinosiny was found dead in her room on the UUM Sintok campus in Kedah last Saturday. She was in her fourth semester of studies for an accounting degree.
Her family believe she died of electrocution and have since lodged a police report against the university for negligence.
Khaled said the ministry has taken several steps to improve the safety and security of students in public university campuses following Vinosiny’s death.
He said this included ordering the institutions under the government’s purview to review the safety of their premises and building maintenance. – February 15, 2023.
