THE Land Public Transport Agency (LPTA) is still waiting for a report from Prasarana Malaysia Bhd about the Ampang line LRT service disruption due to a kinked track near the Bandaraya LRT station last month.
In a statement today, the LPTA said it is working with relevant government agencies to identify the actual cause of the incident.
In response to an article published by a news portal today, the agency said it had never accused any party of being the cause of the incident.
“The main focus of this agency is the safety of the people who use public transport every day.
“All the decisions made by the LPTA are for the sake of public safety and it is the government’s priority to regulate the country’s public transport industry,” according to the statement.
The LPTA in a January 27 statement recommended to Kuala Lumpur Mayor Mahadi Che Ngah that development and restricted activities in the railway protection zone be suspended immediately following the disruption to the Ampang line LRT service.
Prasarana in a separate statement said it hopes everyone would refrain from speculating on the cause of the incident and wait for the full report of the investigation, which is expected to be completed on February 16.
The company said it has yet to reach a conclusion on the cause of the damage, and that the investigation is ongoing.
According to the statement, a committee comprising officials from Prasarana, the Public Works Department, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, and the Irrigation and Drainage Department was formed to monitor the probe.
“A thorough investigation into the cracked viaduct and pier near the Bandaraya LRT station, which caused disruptions to the LRT service on the Ampang line between the Bandaraya and Masjid Jamek stations, started on February 2 to identify the cause of the damage.
“The investigation will determine the rectification and recovery action plan that will be undertaken,” it said, adding that the results of the investigation will be presented to the Transport Ministry and the LPTA. – Bernama, February 9, 2023.
