PARENTS and the public have strongly reacted to claims that a workshop for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) pupils at a convent school in Johor was only meant for Muslims.

The workshop, held at a hotel in the state, covered critical subjects including Additional Mathematics and Chemistry.

However, non-Muslim students were not invited to join the workshop after it was said that a private donor had paid for the whole two-day and one night stay.

“The school held a two-day, one-night SPM workshop for only Muslim pupils, saying that it would only involve religious-related subjects.

“However, it turned out to be a comprehensive workshop covering subjects such as Chemistry, Additional Mathematics and others,” said a parent in a thread on Twitter.

Her tweets have since made the rounds on social media, retweeted more than 400 times and garnered more than 700 likes in less than 24 hours.

She added that when disgruntled parents sought an explanation from the school’s Parent-Teacher Association chat group, the school principal shut down the conversation.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek told Free Malaysia Today that it is up to the Johor Education Department to take action against the school, saying it was under their purview.

A source in the Education Ministry told The Malaysian Insight that the matter is under investigation and a statement will be provided once the probe is completed. – January 24, 2023.

  • Will the education minister take this as an opportunity to clean up MOE and remove extremists? Or will she continue to pretend it is not her problem? We all know this discriminatory practice is not limited to Johor! Perhaps the minister is afraid of the truth? That she herself is the product as well as beneficiary of this extreme racist system?
