Top academician to join Bersatu

INTERNATIONAL Islamic University Malaysia lecturer Dr Maszlee Malik will announce his entry into Bersatu and politics tomorrow.

The latest prominent academic to join Bersatu will announce the move in a press conference in Bersatu at 1pm tomorrow.

“The party hasn’t decided whether I will be a candidate or not. But in any case, I will help them in policy matters,” the political science and Islamic studies researcher told The Malaysian Insight today.

“I only decided to do this after consulting with my family,” said Maszlee.

Born in Johor Baru, Maszlee who majored in Islamic studies in Jordan and Universiti Malaya, obtained his PhD in public policy studies from the University of Durham in 2007.

Since 2000, Maszlee has lectured in Islamic studies at IIUM and is an advisor to several civil society groups such has Ikram, Ideas Autism Centre and Downs Syndrome educational centre (Orkids).

Besides research, Maszlee is a well-known moderator for forums on Islamic issues and Middle East politics.

Maszlee is the second academic to join Bersatu after former Ideas chief executive officer Wan Saiful Wan Jan quit the think-tank to enter politics last week. – March 11, 2018.
