BARISAN Nasional (BN) will file petitions to challenge general election results in a number of constituencies, the coalition’s secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir said.

However, he did not name the seats concerned.

“There will be a basis for us to file our petitions. There are all sorts of things and reasons for this.

“We will announce the full details later,” Zambry said at the Umno general assembly today.

It was reported earlier today that Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has already filed a petition to challenge the results for Gua Musang.

The Umno veteran saw his near 4,000-vote majority wiped out in 2022, losing by a wafer-thin 163 votes to Perikatan Nasional (PAS) candidate Mohd Azizi Abu Naim.

Tengku Razaleigh claimed his defeat, after holding the seat for 12 terms, was due to money politics.

Meanwhile, Zambry said no formal opposition had been raised to the party bypassing elections for president and deputy president.

Nevertheless, he said the party did not object to representatives raising the issue in their debates.

“In the motions that were read earlier, there is no mention of that… but it may be left to the representatives,” Zambry said. – January 13, 2023.
