A RESTAURANT in the Hulu Langat district has been ordered closed for two weeks after a video clip showing a rat munching on fried chicken in a display counter went viral two days ago.

Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement, said the restaurant was ordered to close over numerous food safety and hygiene-related violations.

He said enforcement officers from the Selangor Health Department and the Hulu Langat District Health Department had conducted checks on the premises seen in the video on December 24.

“Checks found that hygiene at the premises was not satisfactory.

“Therefore, the restaurant is ordered to close for 14 days under section 11 of the Food Act 1983,” he said today.

The restaurant was also slapped with six compounds under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009, he added.

The 15-second video was uploaded to Twitter on December 23 showed a rat eating fried chicken in the eatery’s food warmer display.

The clip has since garnered 1.5 million views and was retweeted by the Health Ministry who asked owner of the social media account to provide information immediately. – December 25, 2022.
