THE retail price of RON97 petrol will come down by 20 sen from RM3.75 to RM3.55 per litre while that of RON95 and diesel will remain unchanged for the week beginning tomorrow until December 21.

The Finance Ministry, in a statement today, said the ceiling price of RON95 and diesel will remain at RM2.05 and RM2.15 per litre respectively, although the market prices of the two products have increased beyond the current ceiling prices.

It said the price of RON97 will be reduced in line with the movement in the current market price.

The prices are set based on the weekly retail prices of petroleum products using the Automatic Pricing Mechanism formula.

“The government will continue to monitor the trends of global crude oil prices and take appropriate measures to ensure the well-being of the people is protected,” the statement said. – Bernama, December 14, 2022.

  • The RON 97 fuel is normally used by wealthy or elite people driving their high performance car. Generally, they are not much affected on the fuel price fluctuation. Why not the price reduction in RON 97 given or reallocated to RON 95 so that the common people or 'rakyat marhaen' can benefit it. I am sure there are ways and means to do that.
