DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng has stated he was willing to serve the unity government in any capacity amid speculation Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will not offer him a position in the cabinet.

“Cabinet appointments are the prerogative of the prime minister. My position is secondary to the importance that the future of our country must not be stolen.

“Let me state my willingness to serve in any capacity, so long as it serves the larger national interest that the current unity government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim can continue to function and remain stable against extremist forces seeking to undermine and topple it,” he said in a Facebook post today.

The Bagan MP said Pakatan Harapan (PH) deserved to be in government after winning the most seats and largest share of the popular vote in the general election.

He noted that with Barisan Nasional, and parties from Sabah and Sarawak the unity government had a clear-cut majority that represented the people’s will, representing every Malaysian in the country’s diverse society.

“This is a Malaysian unity government,” he declared in the post.

Lim, 61, is facing a charge of using his position as Penang chief minister to solicit RM3.3 million in bribes as an inducement to assist Consortium Zenith BUCG Sdn Bhd (CZBUCG) owner, Zarul Ahmad, to secure the project worth RM6.34 billion.

In the second charge, Lim is accused of soliciting a bribe of 10% of the profit from the company as gratification to secure the project.

Lim is also facing another two charges of disposing of two plots of land, worth RM209 million, belonging to the Penang government to two companies linked to the state’s undersea tunnel project. – December 2, 2022.
