YANG di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah said he will soon decide on who the next prime minister will be.

The king, who met members of the media today outside the palace, urged the public to be calm and accept his decision.

“I just arrived at the palace. I came back to see who has the majority. I can’t reveal anything because I have not seen anything yet. Let’s be patient.

“We have to accept the decision made by the people, the lawmakers and also me.

“Please be rational. We have to move on for our beloved nation.

“Allow me to make a decision soonest possible,” the king told reporters as the deadline to submit a name for the position of prime minister set by the palace passed at 2pm.

The Agong had set the deadline for Perikatan Nasional (PN), Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) to submit information on how much support they command in parliament and their choice for prime minister.

On Saturday, PH won 82 parliamentary seats, followed by PN with 73 and BN with 30.

This resulted in a hung parliament as neither coalition achieved a simple majority of 112 seats to form the new federal government. – November 22, 2022.
