THE palace has extended the deadline for any coalition to form the federal government and nominate a prime minister to 2pm tomorrow, Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said.

The royal comptroller said the decision was made by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong following a request from political parties, which the palace received today.

“The king advises the people to be calm and patient while the government is being formed and the candidate for country’s 10th prime minister is settled,” he said in the statement.

He reminded the public that the government administration is still operating as usual under caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Earlier, Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had asked the Dewan Rakyat speaker, who is collating the sworn declarations, for more time.

He said BN needed more time to negotiate with other parties.

“After our Supreme Council has negotiated with other parties, we will send the statutory declarations to the speaker,” he said at a press conference after a meeting with Pakatan Harapan leaders this morning.

“We’re just asking for the 2pm deadline to be extended. Let us have some flexibility.” – November 21, 2022.
