NUMEROUS complaints against the Election Commission (EC) have popped up on social media, with many saying they had to wait for hours to cast their vote.

Many voters groussed about a long wait, some lasting up to four hours.

At least one candidate had complained about the long waiting time, accusing the EC of resorting to dirty tricks and delay tactics to frustrate voters.

Pakatan Harapan’s  candidate for the Sungai Buloh seat R. Ramanan said voters in Streams 4 and 5 in Kota Damansara were being subjected to long verification processes.

As a result these voters had to wait up to five hours before casting their vote, he added.

“People are tired, no drinks, no food, no chairs to sit on. What is the EC trying to do?” Ramanan told reporters at SMK Seksyen 8, Kota Damansara.

“We have received many complaints from counting agents and voters that the EC is deliberately making them wait for three to five hours to vote,” he said.

Similar complaints of delays and long lines are also being heard from polling centres across the country.

Another candidate, PH’s Kulai candidate Teo Nie Ching said voters there had complained about being asked to write down their names and phone numbers before entering the classroom to cast their votes.

“This is against the EC regulations. Voters do not have to give their names and contact numbers.”

“Based on our complaint, the list was torn up,” she said in her Facebook.

One social media clip showed voters expressing anger over being asked to vote in an open field in Lembah Pantai.

In another clip, voters were also angry with the closure of a polling centre in Kuala Pilah at 2pm.

The EC has however stated earlier that several polling stations in Kuala Pilah would close at 12pm.

Voting ends at 6pm today. – November 19, 2022.
