PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) will announce a public holiday if the coalition wins the coming general election, it chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

He said the Sunday after polling day would be declared a public holiday for Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Johor, while Monday will be declared as a public holiday for the other states.

He said the public holiday was to make it easier for out-of-town voters to fulfil their responsibility to vote on November 19.

“I want to announce that if PN wins the general election on Saturday November 19, we will declare a public holiday on Sunday for the states of Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Johor, and Monday for the other states.

“This will allow outside voters to go out to vote without having to take a holiday on Sunday or Monday,” he said at a ceremony in Shah Alam tonight.

Muhyiddin announced the one-day holiday offer while presenting the coalition’s manifesto, which is called “Tawaran PN Best”.

The manifesto includes 12 main pillars, 30 approaches, and 234 offers.

In the 2018 general election, when voting was set for Wednesday, Chief Secretary Ali Hamsa at the time announced public holidays on May 10 and 11 in addition to May 13 for states that make Friday and Saturday the weekly holiday.

The holiday was announced on the orders of then Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad after the coalition won the election to form the government. – November 6, 2022.
