TWO Indian-based parties created history today after being given seats to contest under the Barisan Nasional banner for the coming general election.

In announcing the BN candidates for GE15 this evening, coalition chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced seats for both Makkal Sakti and Indian Progressive Front (IPF).

Apart from these two parties, two other parties were also given a seat each — Parti Cinta Malaysia and Kongres India Muslim Malaysia (Kimma).

All four parties are labelled as Friends of BN.

Zahid announced that Makkal Sakti president R. S. Thanenthiran will contest in Nibong Tebal, while T. Loganathan will do so in Jelutong.

PCM’s Razalif Mohamad Zain will contest in Bukit Bendera and Kimma president Syed Ibrahim Kader has been named as a candidate for Puchong.

All four will be using the BN logo.

It will not be an easy task for them to win the seats they are contesting.

Thanenthiran is a former Hindraf activist and became close to former prime minister Najib Razak in the early 2000s.

He was regularly seen accompanying Najib during his court cases. He was also present during Zahid’s trials.

In Makkal Sakti’s recent annual general meeting, Zahid had promised to give them seats.

As for IPF — a splinter party from MIC — they had always been seen as hardcore BN party workers without being a member of the pact.

Their entry into BN had always been opposed by MIC, which did not attend the meeting to unveil BN candidates at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur. – November 1, 2022.
