A BERSATU leader today said Anwar Ibrahim cannot be named PM designate until he has been cleared of allegations of sexual assault.
It is inappropriate and against the accepted norm for Pakatan Harapan to name its chairman as its prime minister designate as he is still facing a sexual assault charge in court, Bersatu supreme councillor Abdul Latiff Ahmad said in a statement.
Anwar’s accuser is his former research assistant, Muhammad Yusoff Rawther.
Abdul said a politician is charged with sexual misconduct in court must withdraw from elections or government position until he is cleared.
Yusof filed sexual assault charges against Anwar in a civil case on July 14 last year.
On October 19, Yusoff won a suit he had brought against Anwar’s press secretary over a case linked to the assault charges.
The court ordered Anwar’s press secretary to pay RM200,000 in damages to Yusoff.
Abdul said the PH should review its pick.
“They need to respect the election process by ensuring that all candidates, especially the PM designate, are clean and full of integrity.” – October 25, 2022.
