DAP leader Lim Guan Eng today reminded Ismail Sabri Yaakob that he is not only the prime minister of Umno but also 32 million Malaysians. 

Umno leaders are meeting tonight to set the date for the general election.

“He must prioritise the wellbeing of people above the selfish, private political interests of Umno,” Lim said in a statement.

Lim said Ismail must put the people first with regard to when polls should be held.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department issued a statement yesterday saying the monsoon season is expected to start Monday and last until the end of November, bringing winds and thunderstorms that could cause flash floods

Lim said the government has a duty to ensure Malaysians vote in an orderly, secure and safe environment.

“Ismail should bear this in mind and convince the top five Umno leaders that it will be both foolhardy and irresponsible to hold a general election during the monsoon period.

The top five leaders of Umno are party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy president Mohamad Hasan and the three vice-presidents Khaled Nordin, Mahdzir Khalid and Ismail.

“The people cannot be put at risk and in danger to satisfy the political whims and fancies of self-serving dishonest politicians,

“That is why this  is a good opportunity for Ismail to deliver as Prime Minister by holding the general election next year,” he said.

Earlier a Barisan Nasional source, who asked not to be named, told The Malaysian Insight that parliament will be dissolved in the second week of October and that polls will take place a month after that.

“It depends on the Election Commission but I think a general election this time will be held on a weekend, not a weekday like the last time, or people will get angry again,

“BN will go ahead despite criticism that polls will be held just after the government has tabled the budget and during the year-end monsoon season, which typically brings flash floods,” said the source. – September 30, 2022.
