THE National Recovery Council (NRC) should be scrapped as it only serves as Muhyiddin Yassin’s political tool to undermine Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s government, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

The Umno president was commenting on the NRC chairman’s statement yesterday that the government was slow in acting on its recommendations.

“The NRC chairman is using it as a platform for his own political propaganda,” Zahid said in a Facebook post today.

“He has been using the council as ammunition in his campaign to show that the government has failed to execute its recommendations.”

Yesterday, Muhyiddin said there seems to be no urgency in the cabinet to act on the council’s suggestions to ensure economic recovery.

The former prime minister said to date, the council has made 95 suggestions to the cabinet and of this number, 86 have been approved while the others are awaiting the cabinet’s approval, he said.

And of the 69 socio-economic recommendations, only 16 have been implemented, 30 in the process of being executed, 14 have yet to be implemented and nine pending the cabinet’s decision, he said.

Zahid, who is also Bagan Datuk MP, said Muhyiddin should be thankful that his recommendations were accepted in the first place.

“Malaysia needs political stability to implement policies,” he said.

“God willing, when Barisan Nasional and Umno win a majority, the NRC and its likes will no longer be needed.”

This is not the first time Zahid had called for the council to be scrapped.

He had previously said the NRC’s purpose was not clear despite having various experts on board.

Earlier today, Umno vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin also hit out at Muhyiddin, accusing the Perikatan Nasional chairman of being the architect of many of the problems faced by the government today.

He said most of the problems stem from the time Muhyiddin was prime minister.

Khaled said Muhyiddin continued to blame the government of the day when it is Ismail’s administration that is solving all the problems. – September 28, 2022.
