MUCH of the problems faced by the government today stems from the time Muhyiddin Yassin was prime minister, Mohamed Khaled Nordin said.

He said the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman continued to blame the government of the day when it is Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s administration that is solving all the problems.

“He seems to forget that most of the problems the government is facing now are from the PN government. So, don’t throw stones and hide your hands,” the Umno vice-president said in a Facebook post today.

“I believe prime minister (Ismail Sabri) and the members of the government as well as civil servants are trying their best to deal with the country’s many problems.”

Muhyiddin became prime minister in March 2020 following the Sheraton Move which saw the collapse of Pakatan Harapan government. The PN government led by him lasted only 17 months, overshadowed by the Covid-19 pandemic which saw the administration imposing movement control orders to contain the spread of the virus.

He resigned on August 16, 2021 after Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi led a group of Umno representatives to withdraw their support him.

He was replaced by Ismail who is also Umno vice-president.

Muhyiddin was then tasked with chairing the National Recovery Council (NRC), a position of ministerial status, with the role of advising the government on recovery and development efforts after the pandemic.

Yesterday, he expressed his disappointment that only 16 out of 69 recommendations by the NRC were implemented by the government. He said 14 proposals had not been implemented or received no response from the relevant ministries or agencies. He added that nine other proposals are awaiting for the cabinet’s approval.

Khaled said Muhyiddin and the NRC have the right to present their views to the government but it is up to the government to consider them.

“The government must take into account various aspects.

“Just because the proposal comes from NRC does not necessarily mean that it would implemented automatically,” said former Johor menteri besar.

Khaled also reminded Muhyiddin of the spirit of togetherness in administration.

“He is part of the government. This finger-pointing attitude clearly shows that he can only blame others for the weaknesses in his proposals and work,” he said.

Last week, Muhyiddin said the Ismail administration had failed to manage the country’s economy and that parliament should be dissolved immediately to allow the people to elect a new and more efficient government. – September 28, 2022.
