NON-MUSLIM component parties in Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s administration should speak up against PAS president Hadi Awang’s racist rhetoric, Lim Guan Eng said.

The DAP national chairman said Hadi’s statements are a threat to national unity.

“Why have MCA, MIC, GPS and GRS kept an unholy silence and continued to support a racist and extremist PAS in government?” Lim asked in a statement today.

“To date, neither MCA, MIC, GPS nor GRS has publicly stated that it opposes PAS in government and its ambition to put one of its own as prime minister.”

Hadi is currently under investigation for his comments saying that non-Muslim and non-Bumiputera communities were mostly responsible for corruption in Malaysia.

He is being investigated under section 505 (C) of the penal code for issuing statements likely to incite any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community of persons, and section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities or network services.

He had also called Pakatan Harapan a coalition of “bribe takers and receivers” and rejected working with it.

He also accused the coalition of being anti-Islam.

Most recently, Hadi said the unity of Muslims must be prioritised, before the participation of the non-Muslims.

At the PAS muktamar earlier this month, PAS election director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said Malaysia will have a prime minister from the Islamist party in 2050.

Lim, who is Bagan MP, said given PAS’ extremist view, it is not fit to lead the country.

He said the party’s extremist stance is also a cover-up for its failure to help the country’s economy recover.

“PAS relies on its extremism and racism to cover up its failure to offer any solution for the country’s economic problems and corruption challenges,” he said.

“This is the reason why Kelantan has become the poorest state in Peninsular Malaysia after more than 30 years of PAS rule.

“Deprived of economic opportunities, Kelantan people are forced to migrate to other states and Singapore to seek job opportunities while Kelantan suffers from poor crisis management in floods, bad governance and cannot even provide clean piped water to its citizens.” – September 27, 2022.
