ISLAMIST party PAS targets to lead the federal government, a journey that would start by winning at least 40 parliamentary seats in the next general election, said its election director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
Sanusi, who is also Kedah’s menteri besar, said by winning at least 40 MP seats in the upcoming elections, PAS could show that it was strong on its own, and no party could form a government without PAS.
“These 40 seats are a milestone in PAS’ long journey.
“In 2050, whoever lives to that time will be able to witness the Malaysian prime minister from PAS,” he said in his speech at PAS muktamar in Alor Setar, Kedah.
PAS currently forms the federal government along with Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional.
It also heads the state governments in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.
Yesterday, PAS vice president Nik Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah also emphasised that the party needed to win at least 40 parliamentary seats in the upcoming elections to strengthen its position in Putrajaya.
Speaking during the launch of the general election machinery, Nik Amar, who is also Kelantan’s chief minister, said that the party must remain in control of the federal government and maintain the three states it controlled.
In the 2018 general election, PAS won 18 parliamentary seats - six in Terengganu, nine in Kelantan and three in Kedah. – September 4, 2022.
