FORMER top cop Amar Singh has lodged a report against blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin over claims that his (Amar’s) civilian friend was present at a police raid at Najib Razak’s home in May 2018.

The former director of Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) said the report was lodged this afternoon at the Dang Wangi police station in Kuala Lumpur.

“Investigation papers have been opened into Raja Petra for defamation under Section 500 of the Penal Code and under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (1998),” he said.

Amar said two other retired deputy directors who were present during the raid have also lodged reports stating the UK-based blogger’s statement was totally false.

He was responding to allegations posted on August 11 on the Malaysia Today portal that he (Amar) had brought a civilian woman to the former prime minister’s home.

“These allegations are totally false and unfounded. He (Raja Petra) says I brought a civilian lady to a police raid at an ex-PM’s house.

“He then says that this lady was allowed to remove one suitcase containing cash and valuables recovered in the raid. These allegations are preposterous,” he said in a statement.

Amar described the operation at the former prime minister’s home as the “biggest raid” in the history of the police force.

The raid came after the Pakatan Harapan government started investigations into Najib over his involvement in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal.

“The raid was conducted in full compliance with the strictest rules applicable.

“Detailed records were made of what was recovered. No such lady was present nor was anything removed as alleged.”

Raja Petra in a video had claimed a police officer revealed that Amar had brought his girlfriend during the raid (at Najib’s house) and took a bag filled with cash.

He also said the police officer told him that many other police personnel were unhappy with Amar’s conduct during his time in the force.

Raja Petra said his source had further accused Amar of a “bad attitude” as he had protected loan sharks and allowed them access to his office in Bukit Aman.

Amar said it is important to note that the raid was conducted by a team comprising deputy directors and assistant directors of the police force who later became directors and state police chiefs.

“There was a whole team of police officers comprising different elements of the police (force) – CCID officers, CID (Criminal Investigation Department) photographers, officers, traffic officers and detectives – approximately 70 of them, involved in the raid.

“There is just no way anything could go through this team without anyone noticing. Moreover, this team had just met on the day of the raid.

“There is therefore no possibility of any conspiracy to cover (anything) up.”

He said he had purposely chosen people from different departments to prevent potential false allegations by people like Raja Petra about the raid.

“The whole raiding process was photographed and videos were recorded from the beginning to the end of the raid by an independent team from CID.

“These photographs and videos are still in the safekeeping of the CID.

“There is just no way a civilian could have avoided these cameras and videos without anyone realising, unless this person has ‘ilmu ghaib’ (magic) and was invisible.”

He said the building where the raid was conducted had more than 100 closed-circuit television cameras and reporters.

“More than 50 of them (reporters), some of them from international news agencies, were waiting at the lobby, the only exit out of the building at the time.

“None of the reporters saw a civilian lady walking out from the raid, that too with a large suitcase as alleged.”

Amar said that the allegations by Raja Petra were clearly totally false.

“It is clear that he is being paid by his masters to divert the current hot news. What better way than to jump on the officer who had the audacity to raid an ex-PM’s house?” – August 12, 2022.
