COURT of Appeal judge Nazlan Mohd Ghazali has lodged a police report over a news article written by controversial journalist Raja Petra Kamarudin, which alleged that Nazlan is being investigated for receiving cash from fugitive financier Low Taek Jho.

The office of the chief registrar of the Federal Court said the police report was made so that investigations under section 500 of the penal code, section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and other legal provisions could be carried out.

Section 500 of the penal code covers defamation, while section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Ac deals with the publication of offensive content on the internet.

The office said it takes the allegations seriously, adding that allegations against the judiciary are a violation of the principle of sub judice.

The Malaysia Today article by Raja Petra Kamarudin – Judge Mohd Nazlan being investigated for unexplained RM1 million in his bank – was published on Tuesday.

It is said the RM1 million in cash, which Nazlan banked into his Maybank account, is part of a RM2 million payment from Low for “services rendered”.

The office urged the police to conduct an investigation immediately to preserve the public’s confidence in the judiciary and ensure that the administration of justice runs smoothly.

Nazlan, who was appointed a High Court judge on January 30, 2017, was elevated to the Court of Appeal on February 3, 2022.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time a police report has been made about news articles questioning the Nazlan’s credibility.

Last month, a police report was made by the Federal Court chief registrar over two news articles implicating judge Nazlan in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and SRC scandal.

In a statement, the office of the chief registrar said the two articles affected the course of the administration of criminal justice and the judiciary.

Malaysia Now ran the story Group calling for Najib’s pardon now wants judge Nazlan arrested, while Malaysia Today ran Shocking revelation: Najib’s trial judge Nazlan’s conflict-of-interest exposed.

Both articles were published on March 14.

Nazlan convicted former prime minister Najib Razak of multiple counts of corruption, abuse of power and money laundering in the SRC International trial nearly two years ago. – April 21, 2022.
