PRIME Minister Najib Razak today slammed Pakatan Harapan’s leadership choices, saying Dr Mahathir Mohamad is unlikely to hand over the country’s top job to Anwar Ibrahim if the coalition wins the general elections.
But he said if the former prime minister did so, it would mean the country would be run by a husband-and-wife team.
PH had declared Dr Mahathir its interim prime minister designate and Wan Azizah Wan Ismail its candidate for deputy prime minister if the coalition wins the 14th general election.
According to Najib, Dr Mahathir had said in 2016 that he would never allow an immoral person to become prime minister and has also said that Anwar is “too old” to govern.
“The second scenario, even if Dr Mahathir chooses to make a U-turn and relinquishes his post for Anwar, that would result in the prime minister and deputy prime minister’s posts to be held by a husband and wife. This is the highest level of nepotism they could practise.”
Najib said the “rakyat would reject” such a despotic leadership.
“We predict that if the opposition wins the general election, they will remain too busy jostling for the prime minister’s post for two to three years before they could even begin working to serve the rakyat.”
Najib said however, if the people were to return the mandate to Barisan Nasional, “then we can immediately begin serving the rakyat as soon as the elections are over as we have a strong line-up of leaders.” – February 23, 2018.
