PEOPLE whose driver’s licences have expired from January 13, 2021, must renew their licences before June 30, said Road Transport Department (RTD) Director-General Zailani Hashim.

He said failure to do so may result in them having to retake the driving test.

Those with learner driver’s licences (LDL), provisional driving licences (PDL), competent driving licences (CDL) and vocational driving licences (PSV/GDL) must adhere to the deadline, he added.

Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong in October announced that those whose driver’s licences have expired are exempted from renewing their licences following the implementation of Phase 1 of the movement control order 3.0 from June 1, 2021.

Zailani urged the public to immediately renew their licences before the deadline to avoid retaking the driving test as stipulated under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and Motor Vehicle Rules (Driver’s Licence) 1992.

According to the RTD database, the number of LDL holders who have yet to renew their licences is 904,081; PDL, 14,216; CDL, 197,030; and, PSV/GDL 89,809 as of Wednesday. – Bernama, June 24, 2022.
