MALAYSIA recorded 2,796 new Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 4,549,847, the Health Ministry reported.
Its CovidNow website showed that Selangor recorded the highest number of infections with 930 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (843) and Penang (203).
Other states and Federal Territories that reported infections were Negri Sembilan (156), Sabah (137), Perak (123), Sarawak (70), Putrajaya (48), Johor (52), Malacca (109), Kedah (49), Pahang (30), Kelantan (29), Terengganu (8), Perlis (6) and Labuan (3).
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s GitHub data recorded two deaths in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Since the pandemic began, Malaysia has recorded 35,743 Covid-19 deaths.
The fatality rate stands at 0.2% and the cumulative fatality rate, 0.8%.
Yesterday, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said a new coronavirus wave is expected to hit the country in the next two or three months – earlier than expected.
He said this is based on the rise in daily infections.
However, he said, the country is prepared for the new wave, adding that his statement serves as a preventive measure to control the country’s transition into Covid-19 endemicity. – June 24, 2022.
