JOHOR recorded 4,726 hardcore poor, of which 83% are Malays, as of May 31, the state assembly heard today.
State Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Khairin-Nisa Ismail @ Md On said this is based on the heads of household statistics in the eKasih system.
“Of the 4,726 people, 3,926 are Malays, followed by Indians (390), Chinese (305) and other races (105).”
She was replying to a question from Samsolbari Jamali (BN-Semarang), who wanted to know about eKasih’s hardcore poverty statistics according to races and districts in the state.
Khairin-Nisa said Batu Pahat recorded the highest rate of hardcore poor Malays with 777 people, while Johor Baru recorded the highest rate of hardcore poor Indians with 136 people.
“Johor Baru also logs 48 hardcore poor Orang Asli and Bumiputeras,” she said, adding that 20,790 people have registered under eKasih as of last month. – Bernama, June 23, 2022.
