PKR will not work with Mohamed Azmin Ali, the party said today.

“The central leadership committee has decided that PKR will not discuss or work with Azmin as he is one of the main causes for the Sheraton Move debacle,” communications director Fahmi Fadzil said in a statement today.

The decision was made after a meeting last night, said Fahmi, who is also the Lembah Pantai MP.

PKR was responding to a speculative story last week that Azmin had met PKR leaders for a possible reconciliation.

It was reported that Azmin, who is the international trade and industry minister, had met PKR leaders at the Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel on June 15. The report further linked the meeting to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

In February 2020, Azmin, who was then PKR deputy president, and vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin, led 10 PKR lawmakers to quit the party to back Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.

The duo then joined Bersatu although Zuraida has since resigned from the party to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia, after Bersatu was heavy defeated in the Malacca and Johor elections recently.

PKR, meanwhile, has decided to hold the Women and Youth wings’ congresses on July 15 at the Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam (IDCC).

“The national congress will be held on July 16-17 at IDCC.

“This year’s congress will focus on PKR’s preparations for the 15th general election,” said the party.

On another note, the party said that the elections committee will announce the official results of the party’s recent elections as soon as possible.

“The new leadership is expected to move quickly to form a new team to face elections,” it added. – June 21, 2022.
