INTERNATIONAL Trade and Industry Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali has confirmed that he will remain in Bersatu.
He also reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and its president, Muhyiddin Yassin.
His announcement comes after co-PKR defector and fellow minister Zuraida Kamaruddin left the party to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).
Zuraida is now PBM president-designate.
“Bersatu is a dynamic, progressive and inclusive party with potential to continue leading and developing Malaysia,” said Azmin in a statement today.
“Bersatu’s idealism and struggle is to work for the people… Its idealism and principles are my identity.”
Azmin thanked Muhyiddin for his confidence and affirmation that the former will remain in Bersatu.
He also praised the former prime minister, who appointed him to the cabinet, for leading the country through the Covid-19 pandemic. Muhyiddin was ousted last year.
Bersatu is able to maintain its Malay and Bumiputera roots and identity, as well as its struggle to uphold Malays and Islam, while leading a multiracial Malaysia, he added.
Muhyiddin earlier this week denied that Azmin will follow in Zuraida’s footsteps and leave Bersatu.
Zuraida left the party on May 26, and has said she is willing to resign from the cabinet. – June 17, 2022.
