JOHOR Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Muda assemblymen have expressed support for the state government’s decision to review its Friday and Saturday rest days.

Perling representative, Liew Chin Tong, who is also the Johor legislative assembly opposition leader, said he hoped the move to set the state’s weekend to Saturday and Sunday could reconcile the different rest days between public and private sector employees and allow them to spend more time with their families.

He said he hoped the bipartisan support could help the state government in creating a better economic ecosystem, especially to attract investment to Johor.

“This will have a positive impact on the efficiency and productivity of workers,” he said in a statement today.

Yesterday, Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the state government would review the implementation of the weekend rest days in the state. However, he said the decision on the matter would be announced after the state government has addressed it in a comprehensive manner.

The Johor state weekend was moved from Saturday and Sunday to Friday and Saturday on January 1, 2014, following a decree by Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar. – Bernama, June 15, 2022.
