AN unemployed man stole a woman’s multipurpose vehicle and drove it away while the latter’s son was still inside at Felda Hilir Satu in Kuantan, Pahang, yesterday.

However, he later dropped the 9-year-old boy by the roadside.

Kuantan police chief Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the woman, who was chasing after her car using a friend’s car, was able to pick up her son.

The incident occurred when the 34-year-old mother and her son, the second of three siblings, went to her friend’s house at the settlement at about 6.30pm yesterday. She left the engine running.

“The friend’s neighbour told the mother and her friend that a man had taken her car and driven it away, causing them to give chase.

“The suspect dropped the child just a few kilometres from the scene and fled in the vehicle.”

Zahari said the 35-year-old suspect was later arrested, adding that the latter took the car as he wanted to return to his hometown in Mentakab, Temerloh.
