A MARA Junior Science College Muadzam Shah student was killed and his mother was seriously injured in a crash involving two cars at Km40, Jalan Seremban-Tampin, Rembau, Negri Sembilan, last night.
Rembau police chief Hazri Mohamad said the victim, Shazman Sabarudin, 16, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene in the 9.20pm accident.
The mother, Husnirazulia Mohd Yudin, 47, suffered serious injuries and is receiving treatment at the red zone in Tampin Hospital.
“The crash involved two vehicles. The mother-son duo was travelling in a Perodua Axia driven by a 24-year-old man, and another five people were travelling in a Proton Saga.”
Initial investigation found that the road at the scene is unpaved as maintenance work is being carried out along the Tampin-Rembau route.
“The Perodua Axia driver was driving from Tampin towards Rembau and, upon arrival at the scene, believed to have lost control of the vehicle due to the unpaved road before entering the opposite lane and crashing into the Proton Saga.”
Hazri said the Perodua Axia driver sustained minor injuries, while the five people in the Proton Saga suffered injuries and fractured legs.
The student’s remains have been brought for post-mortem to Rembau Hospital.
The case is investigated under section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama, June 4, 2022.
