COVID-19 hospitalisations increased slightly yesterday to 906 from 847 the day before, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

Admissions had been on the decline for the past six days prior to yesterday’s rise.

The director-general of health said of the 906 admissions, 558 or 61.6% of patients were in the asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic categories of 1 and 2, while the remaining 348 (38.4%) cases were in the more serious categories of 3, 4 and 5.

Based on statistics provided, patients hospitalised in Category 2 were the highest with 458 admissions, followed by Category 4 (208), Category 3 (117), Category 1 (100) and Category 5 (23).

Despite the rise in admissions, Selangor, the most populous state, remained the only state to report hospitalisation in triple-digit at 167.

Other states and territories to report new admissions are Johor (96), Perak (90), Sarawak (82), Kuala Lumpur (75), Kedah (67), Penang (54), Negri Sembilan (54), Pahang (43), Terengganu (42), Kelantan (41), Malacca (36), Sabah (24), Putrajaya (21),  Perlis (14).

Labuan was the only territory not to report any new admission linked to coronavirus.

Noor Hisham said that besides new admissions, 950 patients were discharged from hospitals yesterday.

He also said that of the 15,215 cases reported yesterday, 15,081 or 99.12% of cases were in Categories 1 and 2.

Only 134 (0.88%) of the cases were in the serious categories of 3, 4 and 5.

Noor Hisham said of the 134 serious cases, 48 had either not been vaccinated or completed their vaccinations.

He said another 50 of them had received two doses of vaccine but had not taken their booster shots, while the remaining 36 had their booster jabs.

He said that 69 of the cases involved those above the age of 60, 71 of them have comorbidities and two involved pregnant women.

On intensive care unit (ICU) utilisation related to Covid-19, he said three states or territories have breached the 50% mark.

Putrajaya topped the list with 67% usage, followed by Selangor (53%) and Kuala Lumpur (50%).

On the bed take-up rate for Covid-19 cases, Noor Hisham said of the 12,294 beds available for non-critical cases, 4,849 (39%) were occupied.

Of the 882 beds in ICU, 282 (32%) were occupied while 817 (8%) of the 10,402 beds in low-risk quarantine centres were in use.  β€“ March 30, 2022.
