WANITA Umno head Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has dismissed rumours that she will contest the Putrajaya parliamentary seat in the 14th general election.

Shahrizat, who is also Kepong Wanita Umno division head, described the claims as “preposterous”, saying Putrajaya MP Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor was a highly respected leader who had shown great concern for the people in the Federal Territories.

“I’ve said it before: stop the speculation on candidates and where they will contest.

“As head of Wanita Umno and Wanita Barisan Nasional, my duty is to ensure that the Wanita machinery is well-established.

“On the candidates, we leave it to BN chairman Najib Razak to decide,” she said after officiating at the Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat programme at the Jinjang Utara football field in Kepong today.

She said as Wanita head, she could only propose the names of female candidates, and not where they should contest.

Earlier, it was reported that Shahrizat did not rule out the possibility of contesting the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat, following an “invitation” by the constituency’s Umno chief, Jamal Md Yunos. – Bernama, February 11, 2018.
