THE Covid-19 vaccination for children aged five to 11 is important, particularly as the country begins its transition to endemic phase on April 1, the Health Ministry said.

The ministry, in a post on its official Facebook account today, said children are now more at risk of contracting Covid-19.

This is because children aged 11 and below have not received proper protection compared with the older age groups who have been vaccinated, it said.

“The admission rate of children to paediatric intensive care units due to Covid-19 has increased by 94% for categories 3 to 5, with a significant rise for category 4 by 200%, followed by category 5 by 125%,” it said.

Therefore, the ministry advises parents to get their children vaccinated to protect them against the deadly Omicron variant, which can cause complications such as multi-system inflammatory syndrome. – Bernama, March 12, 2022.
