DOMESTIC violence victims should be brave and come forward to report their abuse and receive help, said Malacca Women’s Affairs, Family Development and Welfare Committee chairman Kalsom Nordin.
She said in the 105 days since she held the portfolio, she has received numerous complaints concerning domestic issues, especially among Muslim couples.
“Most domestic issues arise from economic instability, hot temper and jealousy, and children become victims of the situation.
“I have also received a lot of grievances from women who complained of being abused, abandoned and many more. They have been advised to come forward so that we can solve their problems together.”
She said the state government and related agencies will continue to boost programmes to empower the family institution.
The institution should be given attention in producing a prosperous and harmonious society in line with modernisation, she said, adding that families play an important role in a child’s behaviour and development.
“The related agencies must also think about the steps that need to be taken to address social issues in the community.” – Bernama, March 6, 2022.
