AMANAH and DAP have pledged their loyalty to Pakatan Harapan (PH), saying that they will continue to work together with PKR despite the reformist party announcing that it will contest in the upcoming Johor state elections using its own logo.
Amanah and DAP will also take the opportunity to work with other opposition parties to wrest the state from Barisan Nasional (BN), DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said in a statement today.
“Regardless of PKR’s decision, Amanah and DAP will continue to work with PKR and other opposition parties, including Muda, to offer a united front to convince voters to choose a Pakatan Harapan government in the Johor elections,” they said.
“This is the time for Johor voters to return the mandate to Pakatan Harapan to ensure the Umno-BN government does not escape its responsibility for failing to manage the Covid-19 pandemic, economic downturn, unsuccessful numbers of lockdowns or movement-control orders causing financial losses of more than RM500 billion, repeated political crises, administrative instability, floods that claimed more than 55 lives and losses of RM20 billion and rampant corruption scandals.”
Yesterday, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim announced that PKR will use its own party logo in the Johor polls while DAP and Amanah will use the PH logo.
Despite differing opinions with PKR on this matter, Mohamad and Lim said they respected PKR’s decision.
“Amanah and DAP will continue to use the PH’s logo as a sign of unity that reflects our future commitment and aspiration to form a government through a united coalition,” they said.
“As a coalition, of course, Amanah and DAP want all component parties to unite under one common symbol that adheres to common goals and common political agendas.
“Amanah and DAP are of the opinion that component parties and friendly parties should sit together, whether in good times or in bad.”
In 2018 during the 14th general election, all parties under PH used the PKR symbol as the Registrar of Societies had not recognised the coalition.
Despite not using the common PH logo, Mohamad and Lim said they will not ditch the coalition.
“A common logo is crucial to convince voters that PH is serious about becoming a government and working to move together as a team in elections, they said.
“Voters (sitting) on the fence will typically give positive support to any coalition they believe can win as well as be seen working together as a team despite some differences between them.
“Amanah and DAP will continue to maintain PH. We still have three state governments – in Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan – to continue our efforts to meet the needs of the people.
“For this reason, Amanah and DAP will use the Pakatan Harapan logo to continue our efforts to return to government.” – January 27, 2022.
